Makato Shinki has made all of us ridiculously curious with the announcement of his upcoming movie: Suzume No Tojimari. It is officially declared that it’ll be exhibited in the next few months over different streaming platforms.
But when and where exactly?
The trailer gives the vibe of the biggest hit animated movies like “Your Name and Weathering With You” and the mystery of a door with the key to absurd reality inside of it, the plot must be truly intensified.

Suzume no Tojimari US and UK release date
Produced by the studio CoMix Wave Films, Makoto Shinki has directed another animated movie, Suzume no Tojimari after he successfully released two outings, Weathering with You and Your name that grounded all over the world.
This new movie is a spiritual successor of both of the previous popular films. Kenichi Tsuchiya served as the animator for this movie following the characters designed by Masayoshi Tanaka and the art direction handled by Takumi Tanji.
Between January and March 2022, the planning and implementation phases of this movie project took place, in the August and April of the same year, the studio spend most of its time and resources writing the scripts.
The production of this movie started in April 2021 but before that, it started its storyboard between September 2020 and December 2021.
Almost a year after its production, this movie ended its production on the 21st of October, 2022. Seven days after that, the first 12 minutes of Suzume No Tojimari aired on the television of Japanese channel, NTV.
The upcoming movie is most likely connected to Your Name and Weathering With You as the director as well as song composer of all of these movies are similar.
Likewise in two hit animated movies by Makoto, RADWIMPS is composing this song with the Japanese composer, Kazuma Jinnouchi. Another piece of information that may fascinate you is that Tonka interpreted the theme music of this movie.
On the 11th of November, 2022, this film was officially released in the theatres of Japan by Toho through IMAX and regular screenings. This movie also launched a special event that pre-premiered IMAX screening for a selected group of fans on November 7 who were chosen through a raffle.
Wild Bunch, Crunchyroll, and Sony Pictures have decided to acquire the rights to the distribution of the film worldwide. Wild Bunch and Sony Pictures have taken the responsibility to co-distribute this movie in Europe whereas Crunchyroll will be distributing it in North America and in other regions out of Asia along with Sony.
We’ve already cleared the confusion on who’ll take responsibility for the distribution, but do we know when it’ll be out?
Well, the straighter the question is, the more confusing the answer is! It is because we know the answer, but still, we don’t.
Specifically, it has already been confirmed that the distribution of this movie will take place soon in early 2023. However, the actual date of the release of the film is not exhibited yet.
As it has been mentioned that it will be released in early 2023, we can assume it to be released in January to February but we cannot be sure of this until an official announcement about it pops up.
No one knows what might happen in the future, there might occur delays because of certain circumstances. However, as the movie stand, it will be released in early 2023 in the West.

The plot of the Movie
Since we haven’t actually seen the movie, we cannot tell you about the plot of the movie in detail. What follows from here is a short overview of the storyline that is going to help you assume what you can actually assume from the movie in general.
In the movie, a 17-year-old girl, Suzume inhabits a sleepy village in the Kyushu area of the Southwestern part of Japan. She is the main protagonist of the anime who’ll possibly leave her charm on the audience with her actions.
Likewise a regular day, she’s involved in her daily activities but on a certain day, she encounters a man who is desperate to hunt a door. Well, they somewhow get along with each other and teams up with the man to accomplish his desire of finding the door.
As soon as they start their journey, both of them happen to discover an old door in an abandoned house in the mountainous region. Suzume gets dragged inside the door as soon as she approaches the door.
Following the storyline, “doors of doom” begin to germinate all over Japan setting off a chain of Catastrophes. As explained by the Japanese distributors, the movie is actually a journey of Suzume through different parts of Japan.
She must close and lock each of the doors of disasters to put a stop to the calamities. However, it also demonstrates the experience of the modern era that plays a great role in the girl to grow up and achieve her independence.
Also yeah, the movie will introduce the man and his role. Not only that, but we’ll also get to know the mystery of that old door and why the old man was so curious to find it.
Most of us are expecting that it is more like the evolved version of Your Name and Weathering With You because of the themes that we’re known about but who knows what Makata Shinko has stirred up on his egg-head.
Evidencing his previous films, we don’t expect at least from him and we might get to observe a lot of events in the movie that we never expected.
Surprising scenes are what we waiting for and we like this movie to be that way, totally unpredictable.
