Damon Lindelof and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy announced that they are teaming up to produce a new Star Wars movie. We can feel the confusion being added because the fans are still waiting for the official announcement to be revealed about which movie of “Star Wars” will get released in 2025 if there is any of them.
Taika Waititi seems to be working on a movie for Star Wars, there’s a movie where Kevin Feige himself will be working, and according to Rian Johnson, it seems like he’ll be returning for a galaxy far, far away.
In an interview with Variety, Rian Johnson was promoting “Glass Onion“, and “Knives Out” sequel, and he also confirmed that he was working to make another movie for the Star Wars franchise with Lucas film. He tells that the project he is working on for Star Wars has been talked about since the release of ‘The Last Jedi.’ Which means the project has been talked about for more than 5 years.
A long period of time passed and we didn’t hear anything about the director of the Last Jedi. It has been a surprise to the fans to hear that Rian Johnson was working again with Lucasfilms.
“I have talked to [Kathleen Kennedy] about it and we’re still talking about it,” He continues, “I had such an amazing experience making ‘The Last Jedi.’ It’s entirely a matter of scheduling. For me, putting this [‘Glass Onion’] out and making the next one of these…the answer is I don’t know.”
He was also asked if he was gonna make another Star Wars movie; he replied; “Making Star Wars was the high point of my life,” he said. “I pray to God I’ll be back there someday.”
Johnson is about to release Glass onion and he’s been busy because he has also signed to make another movie“Knives Out.” To see his performance once again in Star Wars, it might take at least, 2024. If he makes a comeback in that year, a decade will have passed since he worked as a director last time in “The Last Jedi”.
“Rian has been unbelievably busy with Knives Out and the deal that he made at Netflix for multiple movies,” Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president explained.
Johnson himself gives an update; “I’ve stayed close Kathleen and we get together often and talk about it. It’s just at this point a matter of schedule and when it can happen. It would break my heart if I were finished if I couldn’t get back in that sandbox at some point.”
Putting that aside, it seems like the franchise is going through some lack of direction for the movies and it might be because they are going strong on their TV series with Dinsey+. Including Johnson, there are no more than four films of Star Wars being developed.
It seems like the future of Star Wars films is going in the wrong direction and all this confusion has to do with Kathleen Kennedy because she has no idea what to do with it and of her constant change in decisions.
With that saying, if Rian Johnson is gonna direct another movie for Star Wars, it will take quite a long time. He might appear after the finish of Knives Out.
