We last saw Po with his friends and master back in 2016. Since then it has already been over six years. Kung Fu Panda first aired in theater in 2008 and instantly became a fan favorite. However, after the threequel of the film, DreamWork Animation left us hanging as they never released the fourth film, although there were rumors a few years back that Kung Fu Panda 4 would probably be released in 2020 or 2021.
Finally, this year in August, they officially announced that the fourth Kung Fu Panda film will be released in March 2024. That means there is still over a year left for this film’s release. Fans had nearly killed their hope for Kung Fu Panda 4 because it was delayed, and there was no official information about the film, so why did it take so long?
Chaos in DreamWorks Animation
NBCUniversal bought DreamWorks Animation in 2016, and the studio made massive changes. Jeffrey Katzenberg took over as chairman of the studio after resigning as CEO, and he later left the company. And after he left the company, chaos and confusion was unavoidable, particularly regarding the future of Kung Fu Panda, because Jeffrey stated in 2010 that Kung Fu Panda would be divided into six parts.
After he left the company, there were no updates if we’ll get to see Po and his friends on the big screen. Just when fans were wondering if there would be fourth Kung Fu Panda film or not, in 2018, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, the co-director of Kung Fu Panda 3, talked about the future of the movie series with Metro and teased, “I am sure something will happen at some point, but it’s just that I don’t know what.”
However, it did not clear things for fans and left them disappointed until 2021 when the news broke that Covid might have delayed several movie projects, including Kung Fu Panda 4. Well, whatever the reason might be, we fans are excited as we now have an update on the fourth film, and even though we have to wait a whole year, we have to keep in mind, “better late than never.”
Now that DreamWorks has announced the expected release date for the movie’s fourquel, we can be sure that the film is already in the production process. However, it is not that simple because we don’t even know if the script for the film is ready, while Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger are rumored to be the film’s screenwriters. This is just the beginning phase of the film, so we will certainly get further updates soon.
What to expect?
As mentioned above, we only know when the film will be released, so we don’t know what we should expect or what the plot will be. however, in the last movie we saw that Po mastered the power of Chi and started teaching it to others. That means we might as well see a few of the previous characters in action in the upcoming film.
Since there is no information at all, let us talk about what we are personally excited to know about the fourth film. Well, I’m pretty sure all the fans are excited and excited to know who the film’s villain will be, because Po seems to be the most powerful Kung Fu master on the planet, so the villain will have to be much more potent than Po.
Furthermore, Kung Fu Panda film series that is a banger because from the first film to the third, it has the best story, the best characters, and, indeed, the best and most powerful villains. And indeed, since the fourth film will finally be released after over seven years, we are hoping it to be the best Kung Fu Panda film yet.
