“There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter. So it would be possible to have not dueling Jokers but someone that [claims] to be the Joker that isn’t the Joker.” “And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did. I fantasized about that.”

As we all know, Joker’s greatest enemy is Batman, the protector of Gotham City and after witnessing Joker at the end of Riddler this gave the fans hope that we might get to see Joker 2 being connected with Batman. After seeing Joker behind the bars, there is a slight hope that we will get to witness Robert Pattinson in the new sequel.
Well, Matt Reeves gave us a slight explanation on why he decided to put the scene where the Joker was behind the bars. In an interview with Variety, he explained why he chose to include Joker at the end of the movie.
“I initially tested it without it; when I put it back in, the scores for the ending went back up. And I think it wasn’t just that people enjoyed seeing that character. It changed people’s response to the very ending of the movie, to see that Gotham was still Gotham and that Batman really didn’t have a choice. He has to keep doing what he’s gonna do.”
And when the Joker was released back in 2019, it wasn’t connected to DC Universe. Phillips didn’t connect the character with Justice League, he focused the story more on Villain’s past. The director solely wanted to focus more on joker’s life than connecting it with anything else, he even told Warner Bros about starting a new project called “DC Black” where each director could pick one DC character and explain their solo story.
“I said, ‘This will be the first movie, and then we’ll get this director to do that, and this director to do this, and we’ll call it DC Black, and Joker will be the first film. In a weird way, it gives you two bites of the apple, of these characters. You can do these kinds of down-and-dirty character studies over here, and still do the DC Universe over there. To which they said, ‘Okay, calm down, you’re not starting a label here at Warners, but this is interesting. Go write this and tell us what you’re thinking.’”
And with this interview, it is clear that the movie will be the same as it was before. We might not get to see the appearance of Batman in the movie because the movie will give more priority to explaining Joker’s life.
