In a recent interview with Steffan Chirazi, James Hetfield, Metallica’s legendary frontman, got candid about the band’s upcoming album and how his personal life has inspired some of its lyrics. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Metallica’s new album, and the interview with Hetfield has only fueled their excitement. The rock legend didn’t hold back, opening up about the meaning behind some of the songs.
Metallica‘s new album, titled ’72 Seasons,’ is set to hit the shelves in the coming days. Anticipation is at an all-time high, with fans curious about how the band’s recent experiences will be reflected in the music. As if responding to their expectations and curiosity, in his recent conversation, Hetfield hinted at some deep and personal themes throughout the album, leaving fans eager to delve into the lyrics.
Last year, Hetfield went through a difficult divorce from his wife, Francesca, which was reflected in his performance. The pain and sadness, which probably found their places in the upcoming album, were evident, and fans couldn’t help but sympathize with the iconic musician. However, Hetfield has found happiness again in a new relationship with Adriana Gillett, and their love might have also served as inspiration for some of the songs on ’72 Seasons,’ such as ‘Inamorata.’
When asked about the meaning behind ‘Inamorata,’ Hetfield offered a surprising revelation. Although he did not directly state whom the song was about, the musician implied that the lyrics hinted at a ‘mistress’ he wanted to keep hidden from the world and explained it was not just about his love but also about the darker side of his emotions. He likened his misery to a mistress, saying that although he enjoyed her company at times, he didn’t want the world to know about her.
The musician shared:
“Yeah. I mean that whole song, you know, misery as my mistress, and I’m trying to hide her. I enjoy her at certain times, but I don’t want the world to know about her. I don’t want to introduce her to the world because it’s not okay. So misery as a mistress, it does serve a purpose in my life, but I don’t want it to be my life, and I’m tired of it running my life.”
This heartfelt confession by Hetfield has resonated with fans, showing that even the mightiest of rock legends can be vulnerable. As ’72 Seasons’ approaches its release date, the anticipation continues to grow. The album promises to be a raw and emotional journey, giving listeners a glimpse into the heart and soul of one of the most iconic musicians in the world of heavy metal.
