Now, there might be hundreds or, who even knows, probably thousands of characters in the Marvel universe. As difficult as it is to remember all these characters, it could get equally hard to get into their families.
However, the most prominent characters always get the fans curious about their family history. From their parents to siblings, fans just can’t get their hands off them as they dig up even the smallest of details about them.
Well, we can’t really be mad about it. In fact, thanks to them we get to know so much more about our favorite characters. Now, you might be wondering why we are suddenly talking about family members, right?
It’s because you do know Thanos, right? So, just recently, there has been some buzz regarding Thanos’ brother. Quite shocking but it turns out he actually did have a brother.
The Mad Titan once again became the talk of the town after his so-called brother, who looked just like that one guy from One Direction, made an appearance in the latest Marvel movie, The Eternals.
So, did you guys know that Thanos had a brother? Yes, it’s true! The mighty villain, Mad Titan, has a brother, and it’s none other than drumrolls! -Harry Styles!
Surprised? Well, it is not really Harry Styles himself, but a character that he portrayed- Starfox. As a Marvel fan, you must be familiar with the name, right?
You might be wondering, Starfox and Thanos brothers? Well, we were surprised at first, too, but after intense research, we did find out that they are indeed brothers.
Curious to know just how they’re even related? Well, you know what to do? That’s right, make sure you stick with us till the end of this article and get ready to have your minds blown away.
However, let us remind you who Starfox was as, for some of you, it could be a new name if you haven’t followed the comics or the movie.
Who was Starfox?
Starfox was one of the superheroes of the Marvel Universe. He was created by Jim Starlin and first made his appearance in The Invincible Iron Man #55 (February 1973).
Born as the son of the Mentor, the leader of the Titanian Colony, Starfox was depicted as a member of a human offshoot race known as the Eternals.
The Eternals were the genetically engineered beings created by the god-like entity known as the Celestials. Starfox, also being one, just like the rest of the Eternals, had a purpose, but he defied them and left the war-torn Titan, seeking pleasure and recreation on humanoid-inhabited worlds.
During his visit to Earth, he petitioned The Avengers to let him become a member, and after the training, he became one. So, not only was he an Eternal, but also a member of the Avengers and the Dark Guardians.
However, in the movie, nothing other than the fact that he was the brother of Thanos was shown, which left many viewers in confusion. But worry not, as we are here to clear up the confusion and give you all the answers.
Starfox’sStarfox’s name was Eros before he became a member of The Avengers. They admitted him to their training program and gave him the name Starfox since they felt “”Eros”” was an inappropriate code name.
Is Starfox Thanos brother?
Starfox is Thanos’Thanos’ brother, and at the same time, he is not. Confused? Well, don’t be. The reason we are saying this is because their relationship changes based on the comics and the movies.
Because even though in the comics it is said they were brothers, the movies depicted Starfox as Thanos’Thanos’ adoptive brother. Regardless they were brothers, even though they were nothing alike.
So, let’s take a look at both versions and find out what was going on between them.
Comic version
To know about Starfox’sStarfox’s origins, we have to go back to almost seven hundred fifty thousand years ago, when A’LarsA’Lars, aka Mentor, chose to depart Earth after his brother Zuras became the Eternals’Eternals’ leader.
On his journey, he ended up on the planet Titan where he discovered that a group of exiled Eternals had slaughtered each other. However, upon further investigation, he found Sui-San, the lone survivor among the ruins.
He married her, and together, they transformed the Titan into a paradise as they populated it with their children and other genetically engineered beings.
Later, Mentor and Sui- San gave birth to their youngest son, Eros, who was born with the ability to stimulate pleasure in others. Originally named Eron, he was given the name Eros at the age of 5, given his interest in the opposite sex.
So, in the comic version, it was very clear that Thanos was the son of Mentor and Sui- San making Eros or Starfox, their youngest son become the brother of Thanos.
Movie Verison
The movie version depicted a different origin and relation of Starfox to Thanos.
According to the movies, Eros, also known as Starfox, was a member of the genetically engineered Eternals, who was created by Arishem the Judge, one of the Celestials in the World Forge.
This alone showed that he didn’t have any parents, like in the comics. Furthermore, he was created by Arishem to be stationed on Titan along with the nine other Eternals to protect the celestial seed.
There he joined the royal family and was given the title of Prince. Because he joined the royal family and became a prince, he became the adoptive brother of Thanos.
However, before Titan was crushed to ruins, Eros rebelled against the Arishem and fled Titan, which made him an outlaw.
While traveling through the cosmos, he created Pip the troll as a c companion and had many adventures, such s arriving on the Mystery Planet and defeating Black Roger.
In the movies, Starfox discovered another group of Eternals who had also defied Arishem. Upon learning that they had mutual feelings towards Arishem, Starfox introduced himself as an ally and decided to help them find other Eternals and go up against Thanos.
So all and all, the movie version showed that instead of being blood-related, Starfox was actually the adoptive brother of Thanos.
What were they like?
Indeed, every individual has their own personality and their own individuality, but among siblings, they do share some common traits.
However, it was not the same case when it came to Starfox and Thanos, as they had completely different personalities and appearances wise nobody could even tell that they were even related.
So, what were they really like?
Considering both the comic and the movie versions, it is indeed true that they were brothers. However, Starfox was completely different than Thanos. While Thanos had an affection towards Death as he grew up to worship its cosmic embodiment, Starfox was more of a free soul and loved life.
Thanos initially did have unconditional love for his people and was desperate to save them when the planet Titan became threatened by the imminent catastrophic collapse of overpopulation.
He did suggest wiping out nearly half the population so that the rest of them could be freed from starvation. However, he has deemed a genocide and was exiled from Titan for his suggestion.
But little did they know, the planet Titan met its end, and over the decades, it was considered uninhabitable, wiping the entire population to extinction.
So, Thanos did have a soft spot for his people before they all turned their backs on him and made him become evil.
Nevertheless, Starfox was nothing like his brother. Eros loved life and often went out to other planets and systems for adventure and romance, including Earth, where he was remembered as a legend.
Starfox grew up to become a fun-loving, carefree individual in contrast to his brother Thanos, a power-hungry, misanthropic schemer. The once easygoing and lovable Eros soon turned more serious and began to take life a bit more seriously after Thanos killed their mother while attacking their home planet Titan.
So, if we were to look at them from the comic version, it would come as a surprise that although they were blood-related brothers, they were so different from each other. But looking from the movie’s perspective, their differences were understandable because they were not related to each other.
Also, because Thanos had Deviant Syndrome, there were traces of Deviant genes within his body, which gave him a hulking, purple appearance, unlike his brother, who looked just like any other normal being.
How was their relationship?
Adoptive or not, they were still brothers, and we all probably know what it’s like with our siblings. Just like any other sibling relationships out there, even Starfox and Thanos had their moments.
They did have completely different personalities and outlooks on life. However, they still showed that they were indeed brothers. Growing up together, they were there for each other and showed care for one another.
Later on, Starfox developed a complicated relationship with his brother, Thanos, who often tried to destroy the universe.
Even though they were brothers and Starfox did side with Thanos on occasion, he would often spend most of his time with the Avengers and even plan to go against Thanos so that he could defeat him.
Regardless, they did care for each other. At one point, when Thanos took over Satrfox’s body, he showed his worry over the fact that Starfox won’t be able to handle the transference of Thanos’ consciousness into his body.
So, they did have a rocky relationship but still, they were brothers, and each Eternal year, which was equivalent to one thousand earth years, they would meet at a neutral place, bury the hatchet, and exchange gifts.
They did it for their father, who demanded that the two would meet every year as a reminder of the blood that ran through their veins.
The meeting was called The Truce, and the two met alone.
Who is stronger?
Since people learned about them being brothers, they couldn’t stop but wonder who among them was the strongest. I mean- it is very understandable as people would undoubtedly be curious about their abilities and powers and who would be able to defeat the other one.
So, here we are going to discuss their powers and abilities, so we can see who is the strongest one. First, let’s talk about Starfox.
Starfox’s Powers and abilities
Starfox was already an Eternal event in the comics as well as in the movies. So it was obvious that he possessed various superhuman abilities derived from his Eternal physiology.
Starfox was a born prodigy, had higher than average intelligence, and also had received academic training. Even though he had not taken any proper training, he could perform the common activities of an Eternal and even not-so-common task very easily.
Now, let’s look at some of his powers and abilities.
Superhuman Strength:
Just like any other Eternal, Starfox had superhuman physical strength. Although his strength was considered average among the Eternals, he could lift more than 15 tons very easily.
He could also use his cosmic energy to enhance his physical strength making him stronger. With such strength, he could also stop Nebula without any problems.
Superhuman Speed:
He also had superhuman strength and speed that far exceeded any ordinary human. With such superhuman speed, Starfox was able to run and move at a very supernatural pace.
Superhuman Stamina:
Now, of course, for such an entity, stamina was a must, and like all the other Eternals, Starfox had excellent stamina. His augmented muscles were considerably more efficient than any normal human being’s.
Furthermore, he could exert himself for a long time because his muscles produced less fatigue during the physical activity.
Superhuman Durability:
Starfox had exceptional resistance and durability. He had more resistance to injuries and attacks. His body tissues were made so that even after falling from heights and being repeatedly beaten, he could withstand them.
Use of psychic powers:
Starfox, like the other Eternal, could use psychic abilities to some extent. He used his cosmic energy to reinforce these natural psionic capacities to their full potential.
With enough training, Starfox could become completely indestructible and achieve control over every tissue and particle in his body.
Teleportation:
Starfox lacked training, so he could not teleport on his own and used an artifact to do so. However, just like all the Eternal, he too had that ability but remained dominant.
Cosmic energy:
Starfox had the ability to control and manipulate the cosmic energy of his body to perform different tasks. He demonstrated this ability by producing energy shots that produced his Pleasure Stimulation Capabilities.
Not only was he able to project cosmic energy n the form of the electromagnetic spectrum but he was able to project electricity powerful enough to paralyze the opponents.
Immortality:
Not only was Starfox a strong hero, but he was also immortal. His immortality came as a default ability of the Eternals. The cosmic energy in his body was the reason that halted his natural aging process.
Control of Gravitons:
Starfox was able to psionically manipulate gravitons near him to alter gravity, effectively granting him both telekinesis and flight.
Pleasure Stimulation:
He had the ability to stimulate the pleasure centers of the brains of people. He radiated this power from him which cause the people around him to feel good.
He was also able to act as a bridge between the minds of two people, which caused them to feel the emotions and feelings of one another, making them fall in love with each other.
Along with all these abilities, he was also able to levitate and fly which gave him the upper hand in the battles. Furthermore, he also had some knowledge of basic hand-to-hand combat and science as well.
Now, let’s move on to Thanos.
Thanos’s abilities and powers
Titanian Eternal Physiology:
The Titanian Eternals were the subspecies of the Eternals. They were from the planet Titan. Thanos being a Titanian Eternal had a massive and heavy body.
He was born with the capacity to synthesize cosmic energy. His powers were increased as a result of being resurrected by Death itself.
He was even deemed as a Universal threat level and also had been a one-time reality ender. The Cosmic Level threat, Thanos, was even sent to the core cell of the Galactic Gulag.
Superhuman Strength:
With superhuman powers, Thanos possessed immense superhuman strength. The full strengths of these powers are still unknown.
Because he was resurrected by Death itself, his strength was beyond the limits and on par levels even surpassing some of the physically strongest Eternals. With his massive strength, he was able to beat some of Marvel’s mightiest superheroes like the Hulk, Thor, and others.
Even the strongest being such as the mighty Tyrant and a Phoenix Force-empowered Thane, couldn’t hold a candle against this mighty villain.
Superhuman Agility:
It is no surprise that Thanos possessed immense physical strength. Just look at his great size and bulk body!
Despite that, Thanos had great agility, balance, and bodily coordination that were enhanced to levels that were beyond the natural physical limits of any normal being.
With such incredible agility, he was able to dodge a power-gem-enhanced Champion of the Universe.
Superhuman Reflexes:
Talking about reflexes, Thanos’s reaction time was on a whole other level. Even for a being his size, the superhuman reflexes that he possessed were beyond normal.
Just like his abilities, even his reflexes were about average for an Eternal.
Superhuman Stamina:
By now, having impressive stamina was no surprise for Thanos. Even during intense battles, Thanos showed no signs of fatigue.
With such stamina and powers, Thanos was able to wipe out nearly half of the universe with just a snap of his fingers.
Immortality:
Just like other Eternals, Thanos was not immortal but was immortal in the sense that he was immune to almost all the known diseases and infections and also immune to the effects of aging.
Thanos was able to die. However, he was bound to return no matter the severity of his injuries, as he was banned by Death itself from entering its realm.
Nigh-Invulnerability:
Death increased his ability to resist any injury to a greater degree, making him highly invulnerable.
He possessed an impressive level of resistance to physical injury, even compared to other Eternals. With such ability, Thanos was able to withstand point-blank blasts and planet-destroying attacks easily, without any harm.
Regenerative Healing Factor:
This ability is possessed by almost all the Eternals. Thanos also had this ability. Despite his incredible durability, it was still possible to injure Thanos.
However, the injuries would heal in no time as he was able to regenerate damaged tissue with great speed and efficiency.
Unlike the Eternals, Thanos’ healing powers aren’t as developed as theirs. He can regenerate most of the tissues but is unable to regenerate missing organs such as the heart.
Energy Manipulation & Projection:
Among many powers, Thanos showcased great versatility in the use of his energy projection abilities.
He was able to project pure energy as a concussive force, magnetic energy, disruptor beams as well as infrared heat beams from his eyes.
Striking opponents with his optic blasts, using his mental link to his techno mystical chair to form powerful energy shields and barriers.
Although Thanos sported a sleeveless dress, he had some good tricks up his sleeves.
Telepathy:
Any villain would possess this superpower and why not, it’s cool.
Thanos had psychic powers such as telepathy. His mind was invulnerable to most forms of psychic attacks.
Thanos was able to successfully defend himself against psychic assaults from Moondragon and Mantis. He was able to shut done Maker’s mind and even made Hulk attack his fellow Avengers.
So, you won’t be able to play mind tricks on him. No hypnosis as well.
Matter Manipulation & Control:
Just like energy manipulation, Thanos was able to manipulate matters on the atomic level just like the Earthborn Eternals.
Once he was also able to turn Skrull Skragg into stone. He used his matter manipulation ability on Moondragon to purge the muscle-controlling parasites implanted by Annihilus from her body.
Teleportation:
Thanos could easily transport himself across unknown distances, using his link with his techno-mystical transport chair.
When he was stranded in space with Terraxiam, he was not able to fly or teleport, because his chair got destroyed in the struggle.
Super-Genius Intelligence:
The Mad Titan was certainly one of the most intelligent villains in the universe. Thanos had the most dangerous ability in his mind, as his intellect.
He was a genius in virtually all known fields of advanced science and had created technology that far exceeded contemporary Earth Science.
He was also good at adapting to new battle scenes as he was able to beat the Champion of the Universe with his intellect he even tricked the Champion into destroying a whole planet.
Skilled Unarmed Combatant:
Thanos usually avoided physical combat but he was a very skilled, highly formidable hand-to-hand combatant who had been trained in the Arts of War on Titan.
He was specifically skilled at using a combination of his physical and energy manipulation abilities during combat.
This may come as a surprise to you as he was also a very skilled swordsman, being able to overwhelm a Mjolnir-wielding Silver Surfer.
Who wins: Starfox or Thanos?
Now, that we know all about their abilities and powers and looking at them, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Thanos is the strongest among them.
Also, Thanos was the strongest Eternal who was undefeatable even if all the Eternals were to go up against him. Starfox was undoubtedly a strong opponent, however, Thanos was even stronger, and also he had the Infinity Gauntlet.
Even without his Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos could easily snap his fingers and just like that defeat Starfox. When Thanos gained the Infinity Gauntlet, one of the first things he did was capture Starfox and place him under various torments.
He did attempt to charm Thanos out of his plan but had his mouth neutralized for his effort and later on joined the Avengers to defeat Thanos. However, they couldn’t hold a candle against him. Hence, the victory certainly goes to Thanos in this one.
So, there you have it! Now you know Starfox is really the brother of the Mighty villain, Thanos. The comics did give a lot of information on these two however, their interaction on the big screen is yet to be seen and with the rumors of a sequel to the Eternals movie, we can expect it to happen very soon.
