Vol. 3 of the popular Marvel film series Guardians of the Galaxy is all set to be released next year in May. This film is going to be a bit different from the previous ones. And before the film, fans will receive a perfect Christmas gift, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which sets up for the upcoming movie.
After Thor: Love and Thunder, we will again see them in a holiday special. So, what is the holiday special going to be about? We’ve already figured out a few things in the trailer; Peter is sad about not having Gamora around, so his crew tries to make his Christmas special. However, that is not all because, as mentioned above, this will set up the GOTG Vol. 3.
The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special sets up Vol. 3
The holiday special seems to connect the dots between the guardians’ cameo in Thor and their upcoming movie next year. We know that none will miss watching the holiday special; however, if they do and think they’ll watch the film, then good luck with understanding all the new elements.
The director James Gunn stated that the holiday special is his “Trojan Horse,” He will put several new and essential elements for Vol. 3 of the movie. For instance, Cosmo, a telekinetic dog, will join the guardians as a new crew member.
Similarly, we will learn how the guardians ended up living in Knowhere, they have called themselves a new fine ship named Bowie, and just like the previous two of their boats, this one is named after one of Peter’s favorite celebrity personalities. And it was evident that the new ship is named after singer and actor David Bowie, while their first ship, Milano, was named after Alyssa Milano, and their second ship, Benatar, was named after rock star Pat Benatar.
In an interview, James Gunn said about the holiday special, “You’re obviously gonna learn a lot about where the Guardians have been in the past few years. You know, you’re gonna see how they now inhabit Knowhere. They’ve got a new ship called the Bowie. They’ve got a dog [who] is part of their crew now who has telekinesis named Cosmo. So where you learn all that, there’s a couple of bigger pieces of spoiler-y lore.”
The director continued, “You’ll learn all those things. In a way, the Holiday Special was a Trojan Horse for me to sneak in stuff that becomes important in Volume 3, so I don’t have to spend a lot of time at the beginning of that movie explaining it.”
Is GOTG 3 going to be Dave Bautista’s final MCU film?
As per the reports, the new Guardians of the Galaxy film will be pretty much fun and an emotional rollercoaster. Many believe this is the last time we see Bautista in MCU, but why? Everyone loves his character Drax the Destroyer.
Well, James Gunn stated a few months back that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last film, and following Gunn’s statement, Bautista said, “We work in trilogies, and James Gunn has already announced that it’s his last film, and when James is done I’m done.” He further explained that as he is aging, the shirtless thing is getting harder and harder for him.

This means Bautista is entirely ready to leave his role for good. However, that does not imply Drax is going to die in the movie, he clarified on Twitter that Drax is not going anywhere, but Marvel has to replace Bautista with a new actor. However, they might agree because there is no Drax without Bautista. He resurrected the character.
Furthermore, Gunn has already announced that he is not abandoning Marvel just because he’s now the creative head of DC. He said he is “both DC & Marvel” and “The world won’t end if you love both.”
