Ace Ketchum has caught several kinds of Pokémon s throughout his journey to be the Master Trainer. He has caught several pocket monsters in every region, he has caught more than you can imagine.
It’s crazy even to think how many of them Ash has at the moment. Imagine if you were a trainer and you were on a journey like him, how many would you have caught since there’s no limitation on how many Pokémon you can see?
Let’s dive into the world of these cute and powerful pocket monsters!
Ash’s current Pokémon
In the world of pocket monsters, a trainer can only carry six Pokémon on their poke balls at once. Why?
The battle would never end and it would have been too easy if Ash was allowed to use all of his 77 Pocket monsters at once.
Currently, he has six favorite Pokémon s he uses on daily bases; while fighting with trainers, wild monsters, and so on. Let’s take a look at these lucky pocket monsters.
Pikachu

The first-ever Pokémon Ash ever caught was Pikachu. He will always be close to the young trainer’s heart because he has always been with him throughout his whole journey. They have both suffered defeat and tasted victory.
Pikachu will always be Ash’s starter pack.
Gengar

Caught in: JN016: A chilling curse!
Even though Gengar sounds evil and scary, this monster is really cute. Poor Pokémon was released by its previous trainer. For a long time, he haunted Cerise Laboratory but, Ash came to the rescue.
Ash and Gnegar both defeated the evil infamous team, Team Rocket. They created a strong bond, and the cute evil monster decided to join Ash in his journey.
Dragonite

Caught in: JN010: A test in Paradise!
Ash met Dragonite before its evolution, he met this monster while the Pokémon was still a Dragonair. The young trainer taught Dragonair how to fly on Dragonite Island.
Throughout this episode, the Pokémon evolved into Dragonite and after then, it decided to join Ash in his dream to become a master.
Lucario

Caught in: (Hatched From an Egg) Caring for a Mystery!
Riolu was hatched from a Pokémon Egg. The Egg was passed on from one daycare to another daycare. Eventually, it reached the Kanto region’s Pokémon Center.
Riolu felt a connection, a strong connection, and finally hatched in the Pokémon Center. The pocket monster sensed a great bond with Ash and joined with him.

Farfetch’d

Caught In: JN027: Toughing It Out!
Before meeting up with Ash, Farfetch’d was a crazy troublemaking Pokémon. It lacked discipline until he met with Ash and Riolu.
Riolu and Farfetch’d got into a battle, the newly hatched Pokémon remained victorious. Later, Farfetch’d was healed in the local Pokémon Center and after that, he accepted Ash’s invitation to join him.
Dracovish

Caught In: Jn050: A Pinch of This, a Pinch of That!
Originally, Dracovish was restored by Gasattsu and Cara Liss. This water-type Pokémon deflected Pikachu’s attack, it proved how powerful it was.
Dracovish wanted to play with Ash but wanted to bite him as well. But in the end, they both created a great bond with each other. Gasattsu and Cara permitted Ash to keep Dracovish, it joined the young trainer in his epic journey.
These were all the six Poemons that Ash is currently keeping on his roster. They have proved strong enough for the young trainer to help him pursue his dream to become a Pokémon master.

Ash can only carry six Pokémon s at once. You might be wondering where the rest of the Pokémon go.
Laboratory of Professor Oak
He currently has 40 different species of Pokémon in laboratories. They are in three different laboratories, but most of them are with Professor Oak in Pallet town which is also his birthplace.

Bulbasaur

Bulbasaur was one of the first Pokémon that Ash caught at the beginning of his journey.
Ash encountered Bulbasaur when the Pokémon was protecting a small group of Grass-type pocket monsters. Bulbasaur only agreed to join with Ash if he could only defeat it in the battle.
With Pikachu’s help, Ash defeated Bulbasaur, the Pokémon then joined Ash in his journey. For a long time, they were together and completed many adventures together.
Charizard

Caught In: EP011: Charamander – The Stray Pokémon!
Charizard and Ash share a very deep bond. The young trainer saved the Pokémon’s life when he was a cute Charmander.
They had a great bond until it evolved into Charmander. When it evolved, the Pokémon looked down upon its trainer. It found him too weak.
Fortunately, they bonded with each other and became good friends.
Kingler

When Kingler was Krabby (before evolution) met Ash on a beach. Both of them started to fight each other with a stick.
They started to grow together and when it evolved into Kingler, it proved to become one of the strongest Pokémon and greatest friends of Ash Ketchum. They traveled together for a long time, now it lies in Oak’s laboratory.
Muk

Caught In: EP030: Sparks Fly for Magnemite!
Ash and Muk met weirdly. Grimmer caused a power failure in the area, he caught Grimmer at that moment but he smelled a lot!’
After that, Muk was sent to Oak because of the smell. But later, its smell disappeared and it resides in Oak’s laboratory at the moment.
Tauros (x30)

Caught In: EP035 —
This was one of the remarkable episodes of Pokémon. This episode was banned in most places because there was a use of guns in the episode.
During the episode, Ash ends up in the Safari Zone and, in the Safari you can catch as many Pokémon as you can. He ends up catching 30 Tauros. They were all sent to Professor Oak’s laboratory.
Later he uses one of them in the battle.
Snorlax

Ash and Snorlax encountered each other at Orange Islands in a hazardous way. Snorlax was eating everything in its surroundings.
To save the vegetation of the island, Ash used his Pikachu and made it weak with his attacks. Then Jigglypuff used its special move and put Snorlax to sleep, and that’s when Ash caught Snorlax.
Heracross

Ash encountered a situation where he saw a group of Heracross and Pinsir having a dispute. He tried to end the dispute and eventually everything went back to peace, but one Heracross kept following Ash.
Even after the dispute was settled the Heracvreoss kept following him and eventually joined in his journey. He was one of the strongest Pokémon of the young trainer and right now it resides in Professor Oak’s Laboratory.
Bayleef

When Bayleef was a Chikorita, it was a cute but stubborn Pokémon!
It caused many problems for the young trainer, do you know why? Chikorita was jealous of Pikachu because of the affection he was getting from Ash.
The young Chikorita wanted all of Ash’s affection for himself, but as time started to pass they created a great bond of friendship and became a great teammate. Currently, Bayleaf resides in Oak’s laboratory.
Quilava

Caught In: Ep141: Good ‘Quil Hunting!
While the young trainer was running away from the infamous evil team, Team Rocket, he encountered Cyndaquil, more as he stumbled upon him.
When Team Rocket attacked the wild Pokémon, Cyndaquil destroyed Team Rocket’s robot but it was about to explode. To save Cyndaquil, Ash used his Pokeball and saved him from the blast.
It joined with the young trainer and later evolved into Quilava, they had a great bond of friendship with each other. Right now, it resides in Professor Oak’s Laboratory.
Totodile

Totodile caught the attention of both the trainers, Mist and Ash. They caught the wild Pokémon but it wasn’t clear who’s Lure Ball caught it, so they even fought for the ownership.
Although the pocket monster loved to bite things, eat and chew stuff, he was very friendly and playful. He was very powerful but never evolved into Croconaw. It resides in Oak’s Laboratory at the moment.
Noctowl

Caught In: EP154: Fowl Play!
Noctowl was a very special Pokémon since it was the very first shiny Pokémon that was introduced in the series. This shiny monster was loved in Ilex Forest and caused many troubles for Dr. Wiseman.
Eventually, Ash and his partner, Pikachu defeated the shiny Pokémon and caught it. The shiny monster currently resides in Oak’s Laboratory.
Donphan

Donphan was a Pokémon Egg when it was encountered by the young trainer. Although when Phanpy hatched, it caused many problems for Ash, they shared a very strong bond of friendship with each other.
When it evolved into Donphan, it became very powerful and a reliable teammate of Ash. It currently lives in Professor Oak’s Laboratory.
Swellow

Swellow is one of the remarkable Poemons of Ash, it was the first Pokémon that the young trainer caught in Hoenn Region.
Swellow was the leader of a group of wild Taillow. It challenged Pikachu and was unbelievably strong and injured Pikachu but eventually, he caught the leader before it made more injuries to his starter Pokémon.
Later it evolved into Swellow and helped the young trainer in his journey. Currently, it lies in Oak’s Laboratory.
Sceptile

Sceptile encountered Ash during its first form, Treecko. The wild Pokémon battles with Pikachu and ended up being caught.
Although the wild Pokémon had problems being friends with other pocket monsters at the beginning, it changed its habit and became friends with them.
It took a long period for it to evolve into Grovyle and its final form, Sceptile. After the final form, it became an important partner for Ash in his journey. It currently resides in Oka’s Laboratory.
Corphish

Ash encountered Corphish on a beach. He caught the wild Pokémon with the help of Treecko. After that, Corphish always considered Treecko as his legendary rival.
It always likes to eat others’ foods and charge into things. It proved to be a very reliable teammate of the young trainer though it never evolved. It currently lies in Professor Oak’s Laboratory.
Torkoal

The wild Pokémon was a victim in the Valley of Steel. It was bullied by other Steel-type Pokémon s but when it encountered Ash, things changed.
The young trainer decided to help Torkoal and fought with the leader of the bully group, Steelix. Ash told Torkoal to use his attack, Overheat, and defeated Steelix.
Later he joined Ash and became an important partner of the young trainer. It currently lies in Pallet Town, Oak’s Laboratory.
Glalie

Caught In: AG123: Rhapsody in Drew!
Before its evolution, when it was Snorunt it stole badges of Ash and caused big trouble for him. Eventually, it was caught by the young trainer.
The Pokémon was the great prankster and when it evolved into Glalie, it constantly froze different people and Ash was its favorite target. He is now with Professor Oak.
Staraptor

Caught In: DP002: Two Degrees of Separation!
It’s interesting how Ash met the wild Pokémon by an accident. While the crew was searching for Pikachu, Aipom bumped into Starley. Ash fought with it and caught it.
He helped the crew to find Pikachu and it didn’t take him long enough to evolve into Staravia, but it took a while for it to evolve into Staraptor, and by that we mean 105 episodes.
Torterra

Caught In: DP005: Gettin’ Twiggy With It!
Ash encountered Turtwig in the wild. The wild Pokémon even saved Pikachu from the evil Team Rocket and even tried to attack Ash, in a misunderstanding that he was trying to catch Pikachu.
It was caught sooner after that misunderstanding and everything became clear to Torterra. It took a while for it to evolve, after 95 episodes it evolved into Grotler, and 66 episodes to reach its final form, Torterra.
It was one of the powerful Pokémon of Ash. Now, it resides in Professor Oak’s Laboratory.
Buizel

Before Ash, Buzz’s original trainer was Dawn. It spent some time with its former trainer and became a part of Ash’s family. Let’s take a look at why Buizel left Dawn.
Buizel was a tough Pokémon who liked to fight with others but Dawn wanted him to participate in multiple Pokémon Contests.
Ash’s Aipom liked Contests more than battles, so the trainers traded their Pokémon s with each other. It currently lies in Oak’s Laboratory.
Gliscor

Caught In: DP064: Riding the Winds of Change!
Ash met Gligar when the Pokémon landed accidentally in the city because of a windstorm. Ash and his crew the Pokémon then Gligar decided to join him in his adventure.
Gligar was a crybaby. He used to cry every time Ash used to scold him and had a fear whenever he got involved in battles. Gligar overcame his fear when his trainer needed to get rescued.
Right at that moment, it evolved into Gliscor and became more powerful than ever, but it still was a crybaby. It currently lies in Pallet Town, Oak’s Laboratory.
Gible

Caught In: DP157: Gotta Get a Gible!
Ash and his crew met Gible when he was trying to learn a new move; Draco Meteor. The Pokémon was very small yet very ambitious.
Ash decided to help it and after that, the Pokémon started to follow him. With his help, Gible learned his new move and joined him in his adventure.
Gible was a very cute but strong-spirited Pokémon. He was clumsy and childish. His favorite snack? Ash’s head.
Ash had a great bond with the Pokémon and now he is in Professor Oak’s Laboratory.
Unfezant

Caught In: BW002: Enter Iris and Axew!
Pidove was the first Pokémon that the young trainer caught in Unova. Ash caught the Pokémon by defeating her in battle with the help of Pikachu.
Later Pidove evolved into Unfezant in Unova while they were in a battle for the Sixth Badge. She is currently with Professor Oak.
Oshawott

Before being with Ash, Oshawott was a starter Pokémon of Professor Juniper.
While Trip chose Snivy, Ash chose Oshawott. The Pokémon was quite disappointed when he saw Trip choosing Snivy instead of him but recovered in no time.
They share many memories and now it lies in Professor Oak’s Laboratory.
Pignite

Evolution: BW004: A Sandile Gusher of Change!
Tepic was originally abandoned by its former trainer named Shamus after losing a battle. When Ash encountered Pignite it was skinny, hungry, and in a pathetic state.
The young trainer decided to take care of it and even Pignite accepted to join Ash. While battling with Shamus, Pignite evolved into Tepig and impressed Shamus. Now it is currently with Professor Oak. ]
Snivy

According to a few theories, it is believed that Snivy had a trainer who abandoned it later because of its unworthiness.
Even the young trainer had problems while trying to catch it. After some time, they both earned each other’s respect and Ash managed to convince Snivy to be a part of his family.
Snivy was a very powerful Pokémon compared to another base Pokémon. Ash used Snivy often in many battles and now it lies in Pallet Town, Oak’s Laboratory.
Scraggy

Caught in: (Hatched from an Egg) BW012: Here Comes the Trubbish Squad!
Scraggy was hatched from a Pokémon Egg. He got this egg in the form of a gift from Karena for helping her out. The newly hatched Pokémon didn’t take any time to prove how strong it was.
It quickly displayed a great fighting spirit and great energy to battle with other Pokémon s. Scraggy had a behavior of never giving up, he was a very brave Pokémon. Now he is in Pallet Town, Oak’s Laboratory.
Leavanny

Caught In: BW018: Sewaddle and Burgh in Pinwheel Forest!
Sewaddle and Ash didn’t meet in a friendly way when they first encountered each other, the Pokémon attacked him and didn’t allow him to catch.
When the young trainer risked his life to save the Pokémon, it finally allowed him to catch it. Soon, Swaddle evolved into Swadloon and during their fight against Iris, it evolved into Leavanny.
Ash and the Pokémon shared a great friendship and now it is currently in Professor Oak’s Laboratory.
Palpitoad

Caught In: BE032: Facing Fear with Eyes Wide Open!
Ash encountered Palpitoad who was the boss of a group of Tympole. Ash and his crew were searching for an antidote for their Pokémon and while doing their search they invaded their area.
But the invaders defeated them. After being defeated by Ash, he caught him after the battle. The Pokémon became a strong member of his team and helped his trainer in many battles. It is currently with Professor Oak in his lab.
Boldore

Caught In: BW034: Gotta Catch A Roggenrola
While Boldore was in its first form Roggenrola, it was so powerful that it knocked out two of Ash’s Pokémon.
Eventually, he won the battle with the help of Tepig in a rematch. He caught Roggenrolaafter defeating it.
When Roggenrola was in a fight against Excadrill, it got seriously injured but despite that, it evolved into Boldore and turned all the odds that were against him. He won the battle and now resides in Professor’s Oak Laboratory.
Krookodile

Caught In: Battling the Bully!
The Sandile that Ash encountered was the boss of a group of Sandile, they lived near a spa. The group caused huge trouble for the Shoop owners, but in reality, Sandile was just trying to protect his friends from a geyser that was gonna blast.
Ash helped the Pokémon and saved its friends from the eruption. But after that, it started following him wanting to do a battle against Pikachu. During the fight with Pikachu, it evolved into Krokrok but still got defeated.
After some time it came back again and wanted a rematch with Pikachu but still, he had no luck with him. After losing the battle he got really sad and depressed about it but Ash offered to join him and he accepted it with a smile.
While the Pokémon was battling with Dragonite, it evolved into Krookodile. He is currently in Pallet Town, with Professor Oak.
Talonflame

Caught In: XY003: A Battle of Aerial Mobility!
Ash had a hard time trying to catch this Pokémon, he successfully caught Fletching after battling with it twice. Fletchling was a very strong and brave Pokémon, it later evolved into Fletchinder and soon after that into Talonflame.
Talonflame became one of the most reliable Pokémon for Ash who helped him several times in his journey. Currently, he is in Pallet Town, Oak’s Laboratory.
Hawlucha

Caught In: XY035: The Forest Champion!
Ash encountered Hawlucha in a wild forest. Hawlucha had gained the title of Forest Champion after defeating Machamp, the former champion of the forest. He was very powerful and a loyal pocket monster.
Hawlucha was an honest Pokémon but some other pocket monsters caused trouble for him, some Pokémon s of the forest tried to frame him, making him fight with the former champion of the forest, Machamp.
But Machamp realized what was the truth and put those foul Pokémon s away. After some time, Ash tried to catch Halucha but only agreed to be caught if he could beat him in a battle, which he lost.
But still, Hawluch went with Ash leaving the forest to the former champion. This proves how strong and loyal Hawlucha was. Now he is in Pallet Town, Oak’s laboratory
Noivern
Type: Flying Dragon

Caught In: (Hatched from an Egg) XY076: A Not-So-Flying Start!
While Ash was on his journey, his Pokémon Hawkucha found the Pokémon Egg that contained Noibat in it. Noibat hatched just after some time from the Egg and was very friendly and loyal to Ash from the start.
After a few episodes, Noibat evolved into Noivern and became a strong member of Ash’s team which helped him a lot throughout his journey. It is currently in Professor Oak’s laboratory.
With Professor Burnet and Kukui
Rowlet

Caught in: (Hatched from an Egg) SM004: Before first catch in Alola, Ketchum-Style!
Ash and Rowlet encountered each other when Pikachu was in trouble and Rowlet saved him. The wild Pokémon decided to come with the young trainer but Ash was more concerned if Rowlet could leave his family.
When the young trainer was about to leave Alolan Island, Professors Burnet and Kukui took care of Rowlet.
Lycanroc

Caught In: SM015: Rocking Clawmark Hill!
Before meeting Ash, Rockruff used to live with Professors Kukui and Burnet. Later the young trainer and Rockruff made a great strong bond with each other, so Professor Kukui encouraged Ash to catch him.
Ash caught the Pokémon, and when he was about to leave the island, he entrusted Lycanrock to professors Kukui and Burnet.
Incineroar

Incineroar who was once Litten has a sad story. The wild Pokémon Litten was living with another pocket monster, Stoutland.
Stoutland was a very old Pokémon and Litten protected him. Eventually, Stoutland died due to old age but Litten was very loyal to him till the end. Later, he joined Ash’s team and after a while, it evolved into Incineroar.
Ash entrusted Incineroar with Professors Burnet and Kukui before leaving the island. They shared a great time when they were together.
Melmetal

Caught In: SM112: Got Meltan?
ASh encountered Meltan while he was traveling in a group in Alola, but Meltan fell asleep with the young trainer’s Rowlet and got left by the group.
Ash made a great bond with the wild Pokémon in no time and caught it. In no time, Meltan evolved into Melmetal. Before leaving Alola Island, he entrusted Melmetal to Professors Kukui and Burnet.
With Professor Cerise
Mr. Mime

During Ash’s journey in Kanto Region, he met Mr. Mime there and caught him. He didn’t use Mr. Mime much and only used him in a few battles and left him in the care of Professor Cerise.
