Jonathan Majors first appeared in the MCU as one of the variants of Kang the Conqueror, called He Who Remains. Now, Majors is set to debut on the big screen in an upcoming most anticipated Marvel film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Majors is crucial for the future of MCU movies as his character Kang is now the new big bad after Thanos.
He Who Remains was someone who had a good intention of saving the universe from the multiversal war, while his variant Kang the Conqueror from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is someone who lives up to his name Conqueror. Furthermore, they are from two different universes.
Recently, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed also discussed how these two variants differ in the MCU. In an interview with Empire, he said, “Kang, The Conqueror in our movie is a very different character. He’s someone who has dominion over time, and he’s a warrior and a strategist.”
Kang the Conqueror’s abilities
A glimpse of Kang’s abilities or powers in season one of Loki. One of his abilities is to travel through time, and he is a far greater threat and destructive than MCU’s previous big bad, Thanos. He is also described as a “force of nature,” a “warrior,” and a “strategist” by the director Reed.
We still don’t know his full abilities; hopefully, we will see his potential and skills in the film. However, we can still say that he is one of the MCU’s most dangerous and influential people. According to Majors’ strength-and-conditioning coach Jamie Sawyer, Kang is the warrior variant of He Who Remains. He said, “He is the warrior version of Kang, so there was a focus on what that warrior would look like who’s been around through the ages and has developed every type of combat skill. It was about making him look like an imposing figure.”
Furthermore, we know that Kang and his variants are far more superior and dangerous than Thanos. Again, there was leaked footage from Ant-Man 3 where Scoot tells Kang he’s an Avenger and Kang asks him if he (Kang) has killed him before.
With that being said, one thing is sure Kang’s appearance in the upcoming Ant-Man film is going to be terrifying, and Major’s great acting ability adds more flavor to Kang’s terrorism and since the reports have it that the film has Marvel’s best yet script, when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits the theatre, it is going to break records and blow people’s minds.
Jonathan Majors is putting on 10 pounds extra to look more threatening
Since Majors’ character Kang the Conqueror will be the next big bad in the MCU, he has to look threatening and more intimidating than He Who Remains from Loki. And to do so, he has gained more weight, and as per the reports, Majors is putting on 10 pounds extra for his character since he is described as Kang’s warrior version.
However, he did not put on extra ten pounds just for Kang, for he will also be starring against Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan in their upcoming new film Creed III where Majors will be portraying the role of Damian Anderson.
He is excited about playing the character of Kang in the MCU. He said that whenever he talks about his experiences and works with Marvel, it inspires and excites him. In an interview with Deadline, he said, “It’s wicked, man. The MCU represents a certain part of our industry…the MCU is a cultural phenomenon, essentially, and to be a part of that, thinking back when I was in Texas on a farm hanging out with my chickens, I couldn’t have imagined, I couldn’t have imagined being a part of it let alone being a ‘big bad.’ It’s humbling and very, very exciting.”
