If you’re a Van Halen fan, you’re probably still mourning the loss of Eddie Van Halen. But just recently, Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt revealed something that might put a smile on your face. In 2019, Eddie Van Halen had a final wish for Van Halen, and he shared it with Nuno, who recently revealed it to the rest of the world in an interview with Sirius XM.
In 2019, there were already disbandment talks among the members of Van Halen, but according to a latest statement by Nuno Bettencourt, Eddie wasn’t ready to let go just yet. Unfortunately, his death in 2020 made all the reunion gossip perish for a while because the members didn’t want to do anything with Van Halen without him.
But back to Eddie’s final wish. Nuno Bettencourt revealed that Eddie told him that Van Halen was up for a final tour in 2019. He said that he wanted Michael Anthony, who left the band in 2006, back for this final tour, and Wolfgang Van Halen was trying to make it happen. Eddie wanted to go out the way they came in, with Michael by their side, and he wanted to do it old school.
As Nuno put it:
“And then he said something really cool, he was like, ‘Hey, just between us, I’m like, I wanna let you know, like Van Halen’s coming back, and we going to go out the way we came with Michael. We’re planning a run, and we’re going to go out the way we came in like a farewell tour, but like, do it old school.’
And I’m like, ‘Amazing. Overdue, way overdue.’ He was even saying, like, ‘You know Wolf, he’s the one who’s like, he’s reaching out to Michael.’ It was like a really cool thing, right?”
Van Halen had released their final album back in 2012, but no one knew it would be the final album. They continued performing after then, but the band was declining in terms of being active in the music industry. Eddie’s passing ended all the possibilities, but fans still have hope in their heart that the remaining band members will take on the responsibility to let the legacy live.
