Not a while ago, we saw Henry Cavill as his iconic character Superman in the DC movie Black Adam. Later, Henry also officially announced he is returning as Superman and even announced that Man of Steel 2 is in development, which left fans in awe. However, that joy did not last long because after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the DC studios, Henry’s DC future took a major turn once again.
Recently, Henry, as well as Gunn, announced that Cavill will no longer portray the character of Superman. Gunn even announced a new young Superman movie is in development, and clearly, a new cast will be playing the role.
It’s official Henry Cavill will not return as Superman
A few days ago Henry took to Instagram and announced that he will no longer play Superman, he wrote, “It’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman, my turn to wear the cape has passed. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.”
Furthermore, James Gunn also wrote on Twitter that he and Peter will be focusing on a younger version of Superman, and they will be recasting Henry Cavill. According to The Hollywood Reporter Gunn is writing a new Superman movie, that features Clark Kent as a Daily Planet reporter.
Why is Henry Cavill not returning as Superman?
Henry was already fired from his role after “Man of Steel,” and the only reason he was back for a short period was Dwayne Johnson. So, now let’s discuss why he was actually fired from his role. when his portrayal of the character was well received.
Well, there were also many who did not like the portrayal of the Man of Steel, which naturally made his character controversial, so it actually is not that complicated to understand why Gunn wants to start off fresh. Furthermore, Henry’s return to Black Adam was under the previous DC regime.
Gunn has totally new plans for the DC universe and since the cancelation of Aquaman and Wonder Woman has been announced, many believe that there will be a reboot of the DC universe. However, since there are rumors about Jason Momoa being recast as Lobo, we can expect Cavill to take on a non-Superman DC character.
Henry was brought in by Zack Snyder for his Snyderverse, and after he was fired, Dwayne and his team fought hard to bring him back; however, it was a short comeback, which Cavill himself announced disappointingly while also supporting the next actor that will portray the character.
