Chris Hemsworth’s Taking an Acting Break, and Maybe a Permanent Thor Break

Hemsworth

Actor Chris Hemsworth reached new heights of fame after portraying the Marvel character Thor god of thunder. And after Thor, he also delivered a blockbuster Netflix action/thriller film Extraction, and recently, a Disney Plus series Limitless With Chris Hemsworth which was released on November 16.

In the Limitless series, Hemsworth found out that due to his genetic tendency he has a high risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, a disease that slowly destroys memory. His gene contains two copies of the APOE4 gene from both his parents, which leads to a higher risk of Alzheimer’s. Following this news, he announced that he would take a break from acting for a while and spend more time with his family.

Talking to Vanity Fair, Hemsworth said, “It triggered something in me to want to take some time off. And since we finished the show, I’ve been completing the things I was already contracted to do. Now when I finish this tour this week, I’m going home, and I’m going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife.”

As per the sources, Disney asked Hemsworth if he wanted to remove the scene where he finds out having a higher risk of Alzheimer; however, he rejected the idea. He said, “Look if this is a motivator for people to take better care of themselves and also understand that there are steps you can take—then fantastic. My concern was I just didn’t want to manipulate it and overdramatize it and make it into some sort of hokey grab at empathy or whatever for entertainment.”

What about MCU? Is Hemsworth leaving his character Thor for another actor? Find out more below.

Is Chris Hemsworth leaving Marvel?

Will it affect his future in the MCU? Maybe it will, but it’s not like he is retiring, he is just taking a break, and since Thor’s fourth installment was released just a few months ago, it will still take time for the fifth Thor film. But sadly, Hemsworth said that the fifth movie might be the end of the god of thunder.

Stormbreaker as a weapon

When Vanity Fair asked him if there would be more Thor in his future, he said that he was open to playing. Later, however, he said he is happy to conclude his character in the next movie. He said, “We’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again. I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know—am I at that stage? Who knows?”
