Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has always been a fan-favorite character from the MCU, and we do love seeing a funny version of Thor. However, his fourth solo film Thor: Love and Thunder, was a bit too much humor which critics, as well as us fans, did not like especially since Thor has lost most of the people he loved.
While the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok had a mixture of comedy and serious Thor, Taika Waititi pushed Thor’s humor excessively even when the film’s antagonist was Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christain Bale. Love and Thunder should have been a dark film, but its outrageous comedy made this film’s action sequences terrible.
Even Hemsworth thinks that if there is Thor 5, then it will have to have a very different tone. Hemsworth said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “I’ve said this before, but when it becomes too familiar, I think there’s a risk in getting lazy because I know what I’m doing.” He continued, “I don’t know if I’m even invited back, but if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my sanity… [laughs] Thor lost his mind that last one. He’s got to figure it out now.”
Hemsworth loved his character’s change in Infinity War and Endgame
We saw Thor’s character had drastic or significant changes in his journey from Avengers: Infinity War to Avengers: Endgame. He lost everything in Infinity War; however, later, even after getting his hand on Thanos-killing weapon, he and his friends failed to stop Thanos.
Later, in Endgame, we saw fat and depressed Thor, and fans did love the change in his character, and so did Chris Hemsworth. He said on the podcast, “I’ve had such a unique opportunity with Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character. I enjoy that, and I like keeping people on their toes. It keeps me on my toes. It keeps me invested.”
Will Thor 5 conclude the character?
Chris Hemsworth is and always will be Thor for us fans; however, he recently said that his fifth Thor film should be his last one. He thinks that just like Robert Downey Jr.’s Ironman and Chris Evans’ Captain America, there should also be a conclusion for his character. He even admitted that the judgment for Thor is inevitable.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth said, “I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any sort of plan. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know—am I at that stage? Who knows?”
Even though Thor’s conclusion is inevitable, it is still not clear if Thor’s fifth film will be the last time we’ll see our funny and most powerful Avenger hero. However, there has not been any update about Thor 5, and since Hemsworth also announced that he would be taking a break from acting for a while, it is hard to say when or if we will even get to see Thor 5 or not. However, Thor: Love and Thunder did open the gate for its sequel, and if Thor 5 happens, we will see the Norse God of Thunder’s battle with the Greek God of strength, Hercules.
Hopefully, we will see him in the MCU Phase 6’s films Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars since he is one of the original Avengers members. Even though he’s now on a break from acting, those movies will be released after a few years.
