Brian May recently joined Daily Star to discuss carrying on Freddie Mercury’s legacy, how he would like to reunite with the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ cast, and why he felt a sequel should be in the works.
Although the movie was an homage to Queen’s early days and the act’s journey into becoming rock idols, May felt that the script mainly revolved around Mercury which was an excellent way to keep the frontman’s legacy alive and witness what he’d been through while establishing his career and making a name for himself in the industry.
The guitarist then recalled how ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ climaxed while reprising Live Aid and proceeded with diving into Freddie’s later life and struggle with health problems. However, Brian discussed that there was so much to tell about the band and the front in between these two crucial points of the movie. So, May felt it was necessary to reunite with the film’s much-celebrated cast and shoot part two.
Brian on how tempted he was to make a sequel for the biopic and honor Freddie:
“We’ve been talking about it. I felt proud of it, and the people who played us were just phenomenal. It’s so tempting to do the sequel – it would be worth it just to work with those boys again. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ climaxed in Live Aid, and I suppose implicitly Freddie starting to deal with his AIDS, but an awful lot happened between the end of the film to the end of the glory days of Queen.
I loved the fact we were able to do it for Freddie. That really means a lot, and I felt we did it in the right way and in the right spirit. Of course, we were represented in the movie because we were a group, but it was really all about Freddie, and I think we did him good.”
It appears that a possible sequel plan is in talks, and May is tempted to reunite with the movie’s cast.
